Description

I found several set ups for YT-1930 light frieghters, but even the clostest i've found to what was listed by West End games as "stock" for this ship shows after market modifications. So I decided to do up how I imagined the stock production version would be, using elements from YT-1930s from this sight: [link]

Design Notes:

One thing I found in my search for decent YT-1930 plans was how often the original sensor array was left off of the nose of the cockpit in favor of using a completely internal mounting or a dorsal mounted dish. As the only officially done picture of one shows the sensor array on or under the nose, that is where I decided to place it in my version.

I also evened out the size of the cargo bay lifts, and extrapolated how the side bay hatches would open for truly bulky cargo.

As the main engines are quite obviously located over and under the level of the primary deck, I left them out of the drawing in favor of implying access covers for them, leaving the power generator and hyperdrive coils in place.

The medium blue areas, as well as the spaces in the subdeck and superdeck are taken up with various systems vital to the operational longevity of the ship, including fuel, life support, water storage and recycling, and many others.

The cockpit and the access bay immediately behind it are reinforced in my design and this area doubles as one massive emergency escape pod (or at least a drop bay for hard landings and crashes). In all likelyhood, the YT-1930 probably has the same tiny individual escape pods accesed from a hatch in the engineering bay floor that most other YT-series ships have before after market alterations. The idea of turning the Cockpit and access bay for it into a capital scale multi-person escape pod is no sillier than turning one or both side airlocks into escape pods, and my idea has the added benifit of being both centrally located for ease of access and being where most of the crew and passengers would be in an emergency situation anyway if wose came to worse).

i too am saddened by the endless supply of "customized" freighters in star wars. i'd rather have a vanilla ship than one that's been dangerously overclocked and jerry-rigged with aftermarket parts. the falcon has a technical issue in every movie. some of us like reliability
